At the onset, this easy-to-use application doesn't look like much, but further investigation reveals it's one of the better encryption utilities we've tested. For starters, FileBarricader 2004 is conveniently integrated with Windows, quickly encrypting and decrypting items via a right-click menu. Aside from passwords, the program gives a few algorithms to encrypt documents, such as DES, Rijndael, and Triple DES. For additional security, FileBarricader 2004 can easily be set to securely erase originals automatically after every encryption or decryption process. It creates self-decrypting executables, so sending encrypted files to others without FileBarricader 2004 installed isn't a hassle. What's more, it includes options to securely obliterate any file from your PC; though you can only set it to a maximum of three passes. The program impressively encrypts/decrypts multiple files and entire folders with a single password. Although FileBarricader 2004 isn't exactly a powerhouse, this freeware has enough going for it to be useful to a wide range of users.

The Vault by JBCG is a file encryption program that automatically organizes files by extension and version. It will keep multiple versions of files added to its repository and maintain their original modification, creation and access times. The Vault offers the following security layers: PIN protection on the application; encryption on configuration files; hardware profiling on configuration files so they can only be accessed on the computer that created them; user profiling on configuration files so they can only be accessed by the user that created them. The application also adds the ability to alter the encoding algorithm with a WebPass Pro file.

Version 1.01 altered the deposit folder scanning method to use a timer instead of an event handler. Now it scans the deposits folder on the desktop every couple of seconds and processes any files it finds.

Here is one more data encryption software - Rohos mini. It's FREE. Have been using it for months now. I highly recommend it. "Rohos Mini Drive creates hidden and encrypted partition on the USB flash drive memory. You work with the files on the hidden partition without opening a special program. Those who have megabytes of sensitive files on the USB drive and seriously concerned with a data security, cannot imagine their USB stick without the hidden volume that is created using this tool.

It doesn’t require Administrator Privileges to open password protected USB drive partition!" (from Rohos site)
