Adblock is a mozzila plugin which blocks banners, advertising images and advertising scripts. It works by using a number of diffrent terms to define what are ads and what are not, you can use the use of wildcards when inserting your own terms. The plugin dosnt slow down your experience and works well along your host file.

I would rate this tool 9 out of 10.

It can be located here - http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/adblock

And a great filter can be located here - http://www.spywire.net/upload/uploadFiles/all.txt

It's for Firefox too, just incase anyone isn't aware of it. With Adblock and a hosts file I get nearly zero ads.

There's another version of that plugin available called Adblock Plus, which has some additional features. http://bene.sitesled.com/adblock.htm

I'll have to check out that filter set you posted. The best filter set is generally considered to be FiltersetG and can be found here - http://www.pierceive.com/filtersetg/
