Bufferzone - [Free/SW]

QUOTE
BufferZone utterly prevents the intrusion of hostile code and eliminates signature/definition updating forever. All possible threats are neutralized in the virtual BufferZone where unfamiliar programs can run without damage to systems and with no possibility of data theft or replication by email – even by malware not yet recognized by conventional antivirus or antispyware software.

Thanks Mark , yep they fit in biggrin.gif , the list should include anything that doesnt wait till after you have been hit before it does something.. eg: real time protection.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 will have proactive technologies:
  • Integrity control for applications
  • Controls hidden processes

this one:

http://www.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyonder/get...id=wk08_ann_hom

is pc guard for blueyonder users, dependent on what speed you pay for depends on what level you get for free.this is supplied by one fo the biggest isp`s in the uk to their customers.but i have blueyonder and do not use it as it is questionable to say the least,a friend used it for 2 weeks then rang me to clean his pc up.so,that said it may not fit in here as i found it pretty useless as a proactive pc guard,it has also been slated in the blueyonder forums,

if you need more pm me wink.gif and i`ll do my best to help

I don't know if they did something wrong but it works for me so I use:
Ad-Aware @ http://www.lavasoft.com
Jetico personal firewall version 1 (it's free) http://www.jetico.com
I also use spybot but that has been mentioned, and spyware blaster, and on this pc i have norton av (i know it sucks), and on the other because it was free I am testing http://www.activevirusshield.com/ aol's free anti-virus program which b.t.w. uses kaspersky labs anti-virus technology.

I have used Ad-Aware SE Personal, a squared, Process Guard, and Spybot Search & Destroy - no Teatimer though. I don't now.
I am a paranoid, but in remission now. I believe the Firewall Guide when they say that the internet is like the wild west without a sheriff. My problem was that I had proactive but too many security programs with real-time protection. My system took a big performance hit.

I have the passive protection of SpywareBlaster and Wormguard now. I have ClamWin Antivirus, free, no real-time protection, but you can configure for scheduled scans hourly, daily, weekday, and weekly. It updates signatures daily, sometimes more than once in a day. The scanners JPEGScan, RootkitRevealer, CWShredder, and Trojan Remover are on-demand scanners. Trojan Remover can be scheduled to scan at boot. My real-time protection is from Prevx1, ZoneAlarm Pro, and ewido anti-spyware. Prevx1 is a HIPS with community input in a huge online whitelist and blacklist database. On installation it scans your computer, checks against their database, and zaps any malware it finds; from them on it monitors your system for any new code and has the appropriate response. It has three modes: one is set and forget and the third is you are notified of all events. I downgraded from ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite to ZoneAlarm Pro to rid myself of its mediocre antivirus with its real-time protection. ZAP has an anti-spyware module with real-time, OS firewall type protection. ewido has real-time protection from spyware, rootkits, Trojans, etc. I run my browsers, only surfing in a User account, in a sandbox produced by Sandboxie. My defaut browser and e-mail client are from Mozilla with the requisite security extensions.
So now, with help from a multitude of sources and people, I have these active running security processes

clamtray.exe (ClamWin)17.86 MB only to configure
ewido.exe 9.72 MB
guard.exe (ewido) 9.84 MB
pxagent.exe (prevx1) 23.38 MB
pxconsole.exe(Prevx1) 12.88 MB
control.exe(Sandboxie) 3.20 MB
sandboxieserver.exe 2.00 MB
vsmon.exe (ZoneAlarm) 23.85 MB
zlclient (ZoneAlarm) 4.55 MB

107.28 MB
on a AMD Athlon, XP Pro System with 512 MB RAM. I guess that I have to include Sandboxie as proactive too. Others may choose other mixtures to achieve this too with sufficient security. I hope that the list of proactive programs is increased. I am an old man using technology that I read about during the golden age of science fiction. I welcome advice.
Moore
Hi , yeah I think the internet gets more and more like the old west all the time..

Sandboxie is interesting, just started experimenting with that.. Too much security can cause problems, if you can find a few good proactive apps that don't overlap too much it's a lot easier on your system.

Then there are things that don't impact on resources at all like the hosts file / blocklists/ spyware blaster etc. Winpatrol seems to run fairly light too.
