I just installed a virgin (?) version of HostMaster but the icons down the left side are MIA. I can resize and move but I can't access the buttons.. Thoughts?

Hello Beamer,
I don't know if you got this resolved yet, however, I do have a couple of thoughts. First, are you running Win2k? I find that my XP machines show the left menu icons, but my Win2k machine does not.
Second, even though my Win2k machine does not have the icons, the controls are still there (barely visible as translucent dots down the left border). You can still manipulate the program as necessary, but you have to ride the mouse cursor over a dot in order to see the description of the underlying control.

A screenshot would be helpfull if possible. Icons are included in the ressource file for win2k support. It sounds more like a color depth issue to me. Your desktop settings / graphics display adapter must support true colors (256 color settings are not supported)

Hello Beamer-1 & racebannon,
I have been checking the code and I just noticed a bug in the side menu when running W2k, sorry for inconvenience and thanks for the report.
I will fix it asap and post back here when the issue is resolved.

I took the time to download and test out the new update and it now workd perfectly. And I even got my own version number... cool.. I'm gona have it bronzed
Thank you for responding so quickly and effectively.
If this is the place, I'd like to request a way for the downloader to "know" that a version of the file has already been received... not a big thing but a thing none the less.
Thanks again.

Can you explain a little bit please ? Is that related to the hosts file you can download from within the program ? If yes, I might look up a way to perform that but I looked into it in the past and the result was not satisfying / reliable enough. I might give it another try tho. Furthermore, the hosts file is or may be updated every day after 01:00 GMT and when I add a very large number of records, I always bump the following topic :
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=8406You can also take a peek at the left side of this webpage, under Database Counts. The number of hosts records (minus localhost) are listed.

Yes, I was refering to the Downloadable Hosts file that I can access from the Hosts Manager programme. I'd love to see it act like anti-virus products (usually) do in that they will respond with either a) downloading the latest file, or b) stateing that I have the latest version... thus saving a bunch of downloading time when I'm on dial up (yes there are still a few of us left) I'll leave the programming details to you, but perhaps some sort of date/serial number scheme?
Thanks

Hello Beamer Smith,
I will see how I might manage that. I've tried it in the past but I got stuck with the date/time stamps on the server and on the personal PC. When the file is downloaded on the PC, it takes the date/time stamp of the download time which does not correspond to the date/time stamp of the file on the server. Maybe working with a text file who has a reference number or so in it ... Dunno, gonna think about that and see what can be done.
