Hi,

I was wondering a few things, and have not yet read through all of the site FAQ's yet I admit, or all of the forums so please bear with me. Experience comes with time and I know that. Instant esperts don't exist. It takes time to know all the ropes and erring on the side of caution and asking experts makes sound sense.

What is the difference between your blocklists and the PeerGuardian ones? Do you exchange info or are you competing with them?

There are a few legitimate sites (they all are, aren't they?) blocked in the PeerGuardian lists such as for example...

http://www.yourtv.com.au/ my preferred Australian online TV guide which returns a block of APNIC (Asia Pacific Network Centre) at partucular IP 144.140.23.172

And a UK site I look at occasionally

http://www.rewardscentral.co.uk which returns a block of Equinox Asia Pacific at IP 202.177.214.86

Easily fixed as I just temporarily disable the blocking while the page I want is displayed, then re-enable when done. TCP packets from them continue after page is fully displayed. ???

Am I to assume these are spying on me simply because I want to see what's on TV, or what some people post on a UK forum? Or is it because of a block range put on due to some trouble someone had with that particular entity because one of their customer companies' was dubious and caused problems? Please complete my understanding of this topic or point me to a reference on-site here or in a FAQ. Thank you for your responses in advance.

Also, I find it a bit worrying the government list provided by PeerGuarding is suddenly now empty. Have they been got at or tapped on the shoulder so 'Big Brother' can do as they like?

Thank You
Regards
southie

PS. Not being paranoid, just being careful is all smile.gif

No difference, no competition, PG2 uses the lists from Bluetack. The blocklist links at sourceforge redirect to our server.

I dont see either of those being blocked in our database, they show up as ISP ranges.

I believe the gov list was discontinued at sourceforge since we already include it in the level1 list, and it was causing people to download duplicate lists and wasting our bandwidth.

More info on that here:

You misssed my point then. Is the entire range bad on someone's say so? All very lovely to block 20% of the internet due to 1% of the ones who are useful?

Funny that. I had several gov hits previously on a weather app I have and suddenly no hits. Explain that Moore?

Really, we are being screwed.

The ranges you mentioned aren't blocked from what I can see.

You are quite welcome to take anything out of your own lists if you don't agree with something being blocked. I block about 75% of all IP's and find it very useful personally.

If you find something else specific that you would like to ask about in regards to it being blocked, please post here: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showforum=72

The gov list is included in the level 1 list, do you use that ? I can't comment on any of that lists contents at phoenix labs because I've never looked at them.

Maybe your lists were old, maybe you forget to turn on your IP blocker.. maybe they just changed IP's because they knew you were blocking them.

Maybe you should check and see what the IP was and look to see if it's no longer in your lists, if it's a serious concern and if it's no longer blocked, feel free to add it back in to your list.

If you want me to try and look into it you'll have to give me something more than what you have provided, like an IP address.
