What should I know about tinyurl.com that made it enter the HOSTS file?

Is it because it could be used to obfuscate evil domains or because it is a danger in itself?
Kimberly
You never know where exactly you are going, that is what botters me most with tinyurl. It's easy to hide an evil link with it.

From their page - http://tinyurl.com/

Hide your affiliate URLs
Are you posting something that you don't want people to know what the URL is because it might give away that it's an affiliate link? Then you can enter a URL into TinyURL, and your affiliate link will be hidden from the visitor, only the tinyurl.com address and the ending address will be visible to your visitors.

If it's a tracking site, ad site ... and you wish to block those, they won't be blocked unless you have a firewall that is able of adblocking.

Thanks, Kim.

I thought it might had to do with that.

This site is recommended by PC Magazine, should they not recommend this site to their subscribers?
Kimberly
As I said ... the concept isn't bad but it *could* mask a malware link as you will only see the tiny url link and not the real link. So personally I would advice caution when you come across such links.

That depends on how much tinyurl paid for the recommendation.
Maybe PC Mag will be less enthusiastic after the Feds raid them because they have been surfing
kiddie-pr0n or whatever ..

i use tinyurl alot to SHORTEN INSAINLY LONG LINKS.

Funny part, with a good hosts file the sites that are truely evil still endup blocked, because tunyurl just works as a redirect server(the content still loads form the same URL/addy after all)
