Hey all, Ive been using Peer Guardian a lot lately, using some blocklists from this site. I read somewhere that Protowall works better than PG2, and that PG2 doesnt block some of the IPs that are even in the blocklists.

Is Protowall actually a better program than PG2?

What benefits does it provide over PG2?

Thanks in advance! wink.gif

edit: Oh, also, what antivirus software and firewall (separate) would you recommend. I was going to just get Avast free and Zonealarm, but after reading something on this forum about Zonealarm being more spyware like and having involvement with the CIA or something, I thought I should steer clear.

Okay, PW has blocked everything on the blocklists in my test, PG2 hasn't but the thing about PG2 is that updating is more convenient whereas PW requires you to compile the blocklists and create a file through blocklist manager and PG2 allows you to not screen HTTP traffic and it has a temp allow option. Protowall automatically filters all internet traffic so if you P2P a lot, it is the best for you but on the other hand, if you go to a lot of websites with flash games (these are often hosted by blocklisted servers), then you should use PG2. Both use the same blocklists so it is up to you but just be careful with PG2. As far as your other question, Avast! is a good antivirus, I am using it right now or you could use Antivir but be careful about the rootkit detector since that caused me to BSoD often. For a firewall, I would recommend Safety.net or Ashamoo. You can find all of the apps that I mentioned at majorgeeks.com (as are the antiviruses that I mentioned).
