hi all

iam not sure if this is the right thread but here goes ......

i have a setup of ipcop (ver 1.4.21) and vmware (6.0.2 build 59824) that i use as a proxy.
to browse online i have put my proxy details with in firefox and it works just great, i can even sign into yahoo messenger with my proxy. my proxy settings are also in IE (ver 7.0.6001.18000).

but now where iam having a problem is with windows live messenger now i know some people dont like it and such but iam just so used to it and its so frustrating that its giving me problems , in wlm under tools >> options >> connection >> advanced settings , i can see under http proxy that my settings are there so i can only assume that wlm is seeing my proxy settings in IE as apparently wlm looks for connection settings in IE and then trys to connect/sign in but when i try to sign in i keep getting error messages being 81000314 and 80072745. apparently after reading this they say i must put

in my hosts file but seems it either works or it doesnt. and about 80072745 error there seems to be solutions of either dns or some sort of policy that needs to be edited 80072745 in Windows Live Messenger How to fix Windows Live Messenger error code 80072745 in Windows Live Messenger

now in my firewall wlm is allowed on all ports ect and ive tested or tried to connect with wlm though the normal pppoe and then it works even with my firewall on and the BISS host file on, i only seem to have problems when trying to go through my proxy. i've looked and looked in ipcop and i dont know what could be wrong. to create my proxy basically what i did was this

Configure IPCop to use your pppoe account under Network, dial up. Also go to Services, Proxy under IPCop and tick Enable on Green and Transparent on Green. Then in your web browser add a proxy server using the IP Address you assigned to your IPCop installation and port 800. All web traffic will then go through the IPCop setup. If you are using Firefox remember to add proxy in Internet Explorer as well, as your Windows Updates will check IE to see how to get out on the internet.

could anyone perhaps help .. ive been busting my head in trying to figure this out and iam all out of ideas.

thank you so much
Kimberly
Does that proxy allow HTTPS connections ?
Moore
I know some people who can't even get onto live messenger with no proxy or firewall at all..

Try this one ? - http://webmessenger.msn.com/
Kimberly
Normally you should have a hotmail account too ... can you get to your mail online using ipcop? I know that when using a proxy it does not work for me.

hello Kimberly and Moore

thank you ever so much for the replies

um iam not sure where to look about to see if it is allowing https um though to get onto the ipcop gui i have to use https not sure if thats what you are asking.

i have a normal @hotmail.com email and i can sign on to the hotmail.com site to see my mail.

the webmsnmessenger seems to work though, its a silly reason i suppose but i prefer the wlm application itself as i use a plugin called messnger plus http://www.msgplus.net/ that adds these really nice features to the application such as logging and also allows other scripts/plugins and well there is the whole emoticon and such story aswell ... sounds silly i know

but i really really really appretiate the help.

thing is if i use a messenger called psi then i can sign in with out a problem but psi uses jabber and i can connect to the msn jabber server thingie.
i also tried miranda IM and i could not get that to work either

the whole reason for the vm's and such is because well in my country we have local and international bandwidth both with different prices so my international is like gold really. and i run the vms for local and and my international is used to browse i dialin on pppoe as well so i can use utorrent as if i try to proxy that i keep getting a http 403 error off a private tracker and i spoke to the mods and they couldnt get it to work well they mentioned that they tried to before and gave up.

Well, WLM uses HTTPS 443 to login on live. I'm not sure but it seems that ipcop uses port 445 to handle HTTPs connections. Maybe change that ?
Then WLM uses port 1863 too.

Wireshark should be able to tell you what's passing or not.

From IM forum ... you got proxy denied it seems.

ok thanks i'll have a look and see about that port thing.

i did some toubleshooting again today and this is what happened, usually i connected my vms and then i also dailin with a pppoe connection that is ment for utorrent, something made me close that pppoe connection and i tried to connect with wlm through the proxy and to my shock it worked, and i just tired the same thing again started my vms did not dial any pppoe manual connection and then tried wlm agian and it worked yet again while signedin i dialed the pppoe connection to allow me to open utorrent and wlm connection seemed to die i sighned out of wlm and tried to sign in again and then it didnt work then i disconected that pppoe connection and then wlm signed in again ... soooooo it seems that there is a conflict of some kind with wlm and that pppoe connection once it is dailed in.

now ive tried to get utorrent to use a vmproxy but the private tracker does not like it as it gives a error http 403

i hope this all makes sence

ive spoken to the mods ect of the tracker and apparently the ppl say that a vm with xp will work

ooooo now i got to find a vmware and xp guide thing
Angelus
wasnt there a guide of some sort not sure if it was on BISS or somewhere else on how to get xp pro to work on min resouses thinking i just need the os running and utorrent and a pppoe and nthing else
