After years of serving up free lists, software, and research to our members and guests, the donations continue to lag behind the costs of maintaining the site. So far, since 2003, we have been fortunate enough that generous people have either donated their time, money, or servers. Donated servers have always come with problems of limited bandwidth, quota restrictions, and downtime. Recently we secured a dedicated list server with SnowmanUK's help. This server is ours and is currently serving up the main lists.
Our few active admins are still concerned about the future of the site and services.
Currently, the goal amount of 441.49 comes from our monthly server fees - 194 + 225 + 12.50 + 9.99 in USD. This provides the main web site, backup site, list server, proxy service, domain names, lookups, and more. IPV6 is on it's way and it will take some ongoing development to keep ahead of the bad guys.
Although the site was down for a few days as we figured out how to survive, the donations came in and did cover the impending bills. So the site was opened back up. However, now that all services are back, no donations are coming. We fear we will find ourselves at the same place by the end of the month.
So far, when the monthly payments are due, we have either had the money in the account, we have moved to a new donated server, or the owner of the ISP has given us leeway (allowed us to have a balance due). "Letting us slide without paying" is no longer be an option. Whether we move the main server elsewhere, shut down some services, or completely shut down the site... be assured, the lists will continue to be updated.
