Hello, I’m “Nicole” a newbie, with questions for a tech,

I share with Kazaa and Overnet, but my main App. is BiTTorrent (BiTornado 0.37). I recently received a letter from my “I.S.P.” that the MPAA informed them that I was Illegally sharing “Dead Like Me s2 Ex03 Ghost Story” with the time and date along with my “I.P.Address”
I refuse to download “Without Fully Sharing”!! Not leaving my Bittorrent window open for hours after the download is complete, or disabling my sharing feature in Kazaa or Overnet. is not an option for me!! To do that, “Is Stealing To Me”!!
I have read and researched the forums and the web to help protect myself, but have not found anything specific enough regarding protecting myself when using BiTTorrent. I plan on downloading “ProtoWall/Blocklist” will this work with Bittorrent?

My Question,
Do these Apps. “Protowall/Blocklist” hide or change my “I.P.” when using “BiTTorrent? When downloading using “BiTTorrent” you connect to a tracker along with the rest of your peers also sharing that same file. With (BiTornado) you are able to see the I.P. Addressess of everyone with whom you are connected to. This makes it easy for you to be found. Will “ProtoWall/Blocklist” help to disquise my “I.P.” in this situation or does it just block out “I.P’s” on the Block List? If this will not disguise my “I.P. Address” Is there an App. that will?? “Stegano’s internet annomity”(www.steganos.com/) “Zone Alarm”(www.zonealarm.com/) or Anox (www.anonx.com/) Do any of these hide or disqiuse your “I.P.” in Bittorrent”??

Is there any App. or tool that will completly protect you “Sharing with “BiTTorrent”??
ThankYou for “SHARING THE KNOWLEDGE”
Yours, Nicole

BackGround Info. If It Helps.

1. Protowall or Peer Gaurdian both are good at blocking unwanted traffic. They will not hide your ip.

2. ZoneAlarm blocks hackers and others from seeing what is on your PC. It will not hide your identity on the Internet. Of course if you are sharing a file anyone can find see it.

3. AnonX will hide your IP. AnonX will encrypt your data. AnonX support p2p.... A good proxy service is the only way to truely hid on the Internet. Steagnos does not support p2p (officially).

Hi Nicole , smile.gif

As anonxo has mentioned Protowall / Peerguardian or any firewall will not hide your IP , and especially regarding BitTorrent it is very easy to get a list of users IP addresses.

The sticky on anonymous p2p networks has some information on using BitTorrent through Sockscap which helps to run your connections through a socks proxy and also other methods and networks offering higher levels of security:

Steganos is a failure at hiding your IP properly and I wouldnt bother using it , many people have also reported a dramatic speed reduction which is another factor when using proxies and anonymising tools.

I havent tried AnonX , but I would agree it would be a good solution if youre prepared to pay for it.

Speed is key.

I only know of two other companies besides AnonX that offer a VPN style proxy service. One of them claims it will support p2p. The other one does not support p2p at all..... Deal is AnonX cost $9.95 per month or less if you pay for 6 months. The other VPN company charges $29.95 per month for the same service and they make no gaurantees on your privacy. I have not tested there speeds sad.gif. At the time they did not have a free trail.

www.AnonX.com does have free trail period is you need to test the speed.
