Using common programs is becoming very interesting:

Symantec i presume is spying their Norton System Works 2003 pro,
but i think all products and
i have some feeling that was new live reg and live update...
for example
nav32 that while before right click scanning frequently and persistent
connects to

12.158.80.10 port 80

64.94.110.10-12 port 80

only bites but... if you have static ip adress...
be aware if you are not sure from where your inst... come from...
(big brother is watching)
and you do not use well configured firewall

same thing ive ecountered with Alcohol 120 percent trial version
its connecting to taiwan ip of it s producer
dns.msws.idv.tw [211.21.98.2], port http [80]

i hope this topic will not be considered as illegal

yea, we need another list in the BLM probably tongue.gif for programs that "Call Home" I noticed that the short time I had Alcohol. Most likely it is calling home to see if your using a pirated version or not tongue.gif

Ashampoo products, Alcohol products, and download accelerator are all that I know of off-hand that call home But with my HOSTS file, it eliminates the call-home feature in Download Accelerator And the "Check for Updates" component of DAP still functions properly

It's been a while since I loaded up my ashampoo products, but they use(d) a connection to download ad banners to display on program start/exit i think, Ill see if I can track down those hostnames

This was taken from the Windows Media Player thread tongue.gif Thx for pointing this thread out Moore. Forgot all about it.

sure , how about almost every M$ program that is installed in every windows system.
i wouldnt go online without a firewall blocking all their spy crap that tries to get out.

windows media player for starters:
http://www.computercops.biz/article2377.html

i have come across a few online lists like this one below on boobytrapped software , if i can find them again ill post them. cool.gif
http://www.computercops.biz/article2149.html
http://gabbertown.com/fun_ext_adware.html

the most recent prog i tested out that immediately called home as soon as i started it up was get anonymous.

6:59:45 PM GETANONYMOUS.EXE URL http://216.119.69.27/script/proxyxml.asp
6:58:13 PM www.getanonymous.com New record 69.41.161.244

Also customised Internet Explorer browsers that you get from CDS off computer magazines can be altered to randomly call home, i caught one from PC USER magazine repeatedly connecting to their ip in london, bastards. mad.gif

its pretty bad when even the magazines are spying on your online travels, all in the name of marketing research no doubt.

actually this is one of the best tools to use to keep your system under control with XP, alongside our beloved firewalls.

System Safety Monitor (SSM)

QUOTE
is an application-firewalling tool (it is not a "firewall" in traditional understanding, so there shouldn't be any conflicts with your network firewalls). SSM controls which programs are running on your computer and what they are doing.

For example, SSM can prevent so called "DLL Injection". Also, SSM will notify you whenever a program you want to start was modified. In addition, SSM can constantly check your registry and alert you, when an important modification was made.

nothing is allowed to run without your knowlege, selected applications are not allowed to be closed, and no code-injection activity is allowed without your permission.
This effectively blocks most of Trojans/Worms/Backdoors and even Viruses from functioning.
Also, SSM guards against any changes that might be made to the main program registry keys.

Features

· Allows you to control which programs and applications can be opened on your computer. Alerts you whenever a program, you want to run was modified.
· Allows you to control calls to some OS functions which is used in "DLL Injection" and Keystroke logging utilities.
· Prevents unauthorized code-injection activity, so no application will be allowed to use another legitimate one for malicious activity.
· Allows you to control which programs is allowed to start other, and wich cannot be started by others. For example, you may allow your browser to be started only by Explorer.exe but not by any other untrusted application.
· Offers a choice of two modes - User and Administrator. In Administrator mode you can set your preferences to control programs. Access to this mode can be protected with an encrypted password to prevent anyone changing your settings. In User mode no changes can be made to your settings.
· Supervises changes to important registry keys when installing new programs.
· Will block or alert on any attempt to change guarded registry keys.
· Allows you to control which programs run at system startup.
· Maintains a list of running applications and allows you to terminate any application immediately.
· Allows you to block specific windows (including websites) from opening.
· Can be set to run automatically on system startup.

Beta warning
There may be problems sometimes with intercepting DLL Injection and Application execution in 9x.

and i cant believe its free! cool.gif

Ok so basically, they hit several areas with LOADS of software instead of individuals that MIGHT have been filesharing. Feh, they allways seem to keep busy, dont these copydumb yuppies go on vacations?
Moore
Not sure if you read the other posts above proshare , but we are listing call home apps in this thread , the articles in your links have been posted in the external news section.
