This is annoying, i have Windows XP Service pack 2 with pop up blocker and spyware prevention.. I also have Pest Patrol and Spybot S&D.. I don't need any extra spyware protection from an "IP Blocker".. Now since protowall wants to play the role of website blocker too, i can't go to movie.com, limewire.com, and a lot of other sites i'm used to visiting, i know those sites might be associated with spyware, but as i've explained, i have that tooken care of, so how can i get it to just block connections of people trying to connect to me, not me connecting to a website, thats bull, now i'm at risk because i refuse to limit my internet experience because protowall is over cautious..

Hi BJ1,

everyone has to set exclusions for the websites they like when they are blocked, it's an easy procedure to do in the BLM.

just watch at your pw what ip is gettiing blocking when connecting to the site and add that to the exclusions list.

you can also turn off protowall when browsing and not p2p-ing if you wish.

further a lot of sites are blocked by the ads list you can also you use a hosts file instead...

hope this helps

I agree it's annoying. I have the "HOSTS file from hell," ProtoWall v2.00 b2007, PeerGuardian Lite, Complete Anonymous Web Surfing v3.2.0.0, NAV 2005, DiamondCS TDS-3 v3.2.0 with execution protection enabled, SpyBot S&D, Ad-Watch/Aware, Sygate Personal Firewall Pro, StartUp Organizer v2.5.222, PestPatrol, and TaskInfo 2003 all running most of the time. I run HijackThis, CWShredder, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 1.2.1, Blocklist Manager, DiamondCS Port Explorer, SpywareBlaster, and Xcleaner periodically. Linux is looking better every day. I'm embarassed to suggest all this crap to anyone running an older, slower system; not only will it take forever to boot but it may not have much left in the way of resources to run any programs!

But this is the way it has to be. And even then you can expect problems. The only way to be sure is to pull the ethernet cable out of the back. (In fact, I'm currently running off a little 4-port switch that sits on a shelf at eye level. I pull that and I'm safe. Why can't systems come with switches in a handy place so you could disconnect instantly? Good idea for the next project box.)

I'm still evaluating popup blockers and anti-SPAM products, and I know I've got holes in my setup. But I've seen several systems where a hard format was the only way to fix the problems. And even using the system restore disks from the manufacturer can break your system, as Yahoo and MusicMatch aren't as benevolent as they might have been (?). I just fixed a brand new Dell hi-end laptop that came with a Trojan Horse from the factory! Installed by Dell! This pc had never been connected to the internet. I'm sure Dell means well but no thank you, I'd feel much better if nobody was looking over my sholder as I typed.

I'm just glad B.I.S.S. has signed on to help combat this crap. No one software provider has as of yet.

Hi welcome to the forum ..

Well it's a start, but thats not really enough to stop all spyware... maybe not even enough to clean up afterwards biggrin.gif I sure wouldnt rely on Pest Patrol for anything.

IP blocking the known spyware IPs is the only real way to prevent being hijacked / infected.. HOSTS files cannot block IPs that have no reverse DNS and the cleanup/removal programs are unable to fully remove a growing number of malware.

Just exclude the blocked spyware associated sites you go to or dont load the spyware list in the BLM .. If you feel there is a site blocked in error post it in the invalid report forum and well take a look.

If you have a firewall , then use your firewall logs to record which sites/IPs are getting blocked and add them to your exclusions list.
