Uh oh - List servers needed yo

Uh oh - List servers needed yo

Greetings all... Here's a little heads up about the the current list server situation.
In the next week or so we will be losing our main list servers which were generously donated to us by Snowman for quite a while now. We are extremely grateful for his help and we'd like to thank him for his long time assistance.
Unfortunately this means we may face some major interruptions in the ability for people to directly download blocklists until we can find some kind of replacement server.
Blocklistpro.com will still be here as a backup site to handle manual downloads, but it's not going to be able to cope with the crazy bandwidth usage of all the direct downloads we have to handle from all over the place. yeah we love to help everyone out .
Again we are going to need some help with the list hosting so if anyone can help us out at all please get in contact with me via pm or email me [ click the links under my post ].
The level1 list is quite a monster and can chew up to 100 gb a day in bandwith or maybe more, most of the other small lists we may be able to host on this server or another backup server.
Current bandwidth stats just for snowman1 server are : 1285.84GB | 5 days
We would love to be able to purchase another dedicated server to handle the load and have been looking for some good deals, but for what we require that's probably going to be a little bit above what are able to afford at the moment.
So hopefully we can avoid any serious downtime and get another replacement server going before snowman's servers are shutdown, which will be in about a weeks time, we'll let you all know what's happening though.
As always, thanks for your continued support

Hi everyone
I'd just like to announce that this week will mark the BISS forums 5th birthday, and we would like to thank everyone who has contributed in so many ways and for your support over the years to help keep us going.
It's definitely been a wild ride and I have had the privilege of working with some very great and talented people over the years, some have moved on to better things and some thankfully chose to stick around and continue to manage or work on improving the site, software and services we provide.
The Bluetack site actually started out a little while before the forums. Dom/Bluetack was developing the Blocklist Converter way back in 2003 and he also started on building a small selection of articles and resources for people to use.
In the early days the Bluetack server also hosted the Peerguardian.net support forums for some time, and many of us also worked as staff there before it was closed down and the Bluetack forums became the center of our blocklist research efforts.
Some people may remember the good old days of the old PGIP database run by Method and the one comment page we had for reporting ranges, or the shortlived Zerodata IP database and some other attempts to try and maintain some kind of IP database for people to use.
We've come a long way since then to what we have today, a centralised community dedicated to providing support, IP research and tools to protect our internet against the lurking evil.
The success of this site and the goals we have achieved in the past and continue to aim for in the future ultimately depends on you, the members who make up the BISS community.
From all of the BISS admin team we'd like to thank everyone involved for their continued support and contributions to make this site what it is today.
-----------------------------------------
I would also like to take this opportunity to mention that we always need more help around the site in many areas, and if anyone would like to join the team here at BISS, we are now looking for people to take on the following roles.
------------------ News Reporters: ------------------
An extremely important role, as part of the news team you would be in charge of gathering news from around the net and posting any relevant stories and security alerts to help keep the community up to date on current events or privacy / security issues.
--------------------- Software Beta testers / Reviewers: ---------------------
If you are someone who enjoys testing out all the latest software programs, plugins, operating systems or hardware etc and you are willing to post your impressions and reviews on any of these things that you test out, then taking on this job as part of the Software review team is for you.
We have a security tools section here on the forums, and it doesn't quite get the attention it deserves.Things posted in this area don't have to be strictly related to security, but should be relevant to the content of our forums in some way.
------------------ IP Verifiers: ------------------
An IP verifiers role is to help monitor existing IP ranges in our database and to check for any changes to IP ranges to help keep things up to date. This is also a good way to for new users to start off their IP hunting skills and get some experience for IP hunting.
------------------ IP Hunters: ------------------
An integral part of our site is the IP research which goes into the blocklists, and our IP hunters team are our eyes and ears which we rely on to gather new data and keep us all protected against internet based threats.
If you are a hardcore downloader with lots of P2P logs to share or you enjoy tracking down IP's to help make the internet a safer place this job has your name all over it.
The more people that are actively involved in this area of research will mean there are less places for those companies and individuals we work against to hide in and work from.
--------------------- Forum Moderators: ---------------------
We are considering taking on some more forum moderators to help out around the forum.
To be considered for this role you will need to be an existing member for a reasonable amount of time and show a willingness and capability to help people. A natural desire to help resolve conflict, not create it, is also important.
--------------------- Software Developers: ---------------------
An essential part of this site is our software which is relied upon by millions of people to help keep them protected. If you have the much needed skills to help keep our software such as Protowall alive and updated we would love to hear from you.
Protowall is coded in C++ and although it's already an extremely powerful application in it's current incarnation, there are still many new features which could be added to make it even better.
-----------------------------------------
If you think you can help us out in any of these areas please reply here or if you want to keep it private then just PM me here on the forums.
Thanks

Hi everyone, we now have a new blocklist mirror available for you to use as a backup, for any times when you have trouble downloading the lists through our normal download methods [ Blocklist Manager etc ]. No more download wait times from sites like rapidshare or easyshare.
These blocklist backup lists will be kept up to date and in sync with the config folder here on BISS as much as possible..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Main backup site - http://blocklistpro.com/
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current available blocklist formats in .zip & .gz files are :- Protowall/Peerguardian v1
- Outpost Firewall - Blockpost [ V2-V4-V6 ]
- Ed2k IPfilter.dat [ NIP - normal IP filter & PIP - paranoid IP filter]
- Safepeer [ PSPlist - Paranoid list - All blocklist files ]
- BISS Hosts file [ More info : Hosts File FAQ ]
-- Read the Blocklist FAQ for more details about the contents and purpose of each list : http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php...DE=01&cid=9 --
QUOTE Once downloaded, unzip the file. Load the list/s into your IP blocking application, or import them into the Blocklist Manager first to merge and convert them into one file and your required format.. then export them to a file to load into your IP blocking application.
There are direct linking restrictions in place at the moment, so please be aware that the lists can only be downloaded through visiting the download web page at this time. All sites are brand new and still need some decent testing and your feedback.
-
Both of these sites below cannot be updated due to server problems - Please just use use Blocklistpro.com for now.
Mirror site 2 - http://blocklistpro.co.cc/ Mirror Site 3 - http://bluetack.snowmanuk.net/
-
If you have any trouble at all using the sites, please report back here.
Thanks for your continued support.. BISS Admin Team |

Malvertizements vague still very active.

After several months, malicious advertisements are still popping up everywhere, redirecting people to rogue scanners such as xponlinescanner, antispywaredeluxe.com, spywaredestructor, imunizator.com, Malware Alarm, Spy-Shredder, performanceoptimizer to name only a few. German people will be redirected to diskretter.com, French people to erreurchasseur, toolsicuro for Italy etc… which shows us that the redirects are triggered by several factors such as time, geo location …
Regular readers of Flash Mystery, or how you get infected by *.SWF files (Lo-Fi Version) or Spyware Sucks are aware that these malvertizements appear on a huge variety of websites such as allmusic, lyricsdownload, several newspapers & social networking sites, mlb.com, torrent sites, Disney France, Clubic, Yahoo, Photobucket in the past and currently on websites belonging to the group iEUROP.
Time, efforts and teamwork did permit us to identify and remove several malvertizements and discover different bad advertising agencies. There is still a huge amount of banners out on Internet, new ones appear regularly and new methods point their nose also. Whether you are an Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera or Safari (Mac) user, you are susceptible to fall on one of these redirects during your surf activities.
We need your help to track & take them down. If you have been a victim of these redirects to rogue scanners by malicious advertisements, take a moment please to report them to us. Instructions can be found here. |

Dear members and guests,
Regretfully we need to let you all know that in one weeks time the site may be closing indefinitely. Our web hosting bill is currently 3 months behind and without this server in operation there will also be no more blocklist updates possible.
We ask you to make a choice and decide on our future. If you want to help keep us alive then we need your support and donations.
There are literally millions of people downloading our files, however only a very small proportion of people find the time to invest anything in return to ensure that our free services can continue.
Everything we do here is offered free of charge, we make absolutely no money whatsoever. We do however spend quite a lot of time to keep everything running as best as we can for your benefit.
In the event that we cannot afford to continue offering our services for free, then we may need to consider introducing a small subscription/fee based service for downloading the blocklist updates and possibly looking towards using ads throughout the site.
We also need more server mirrors to cope with the excessive bandwidth/traffic associated with hosting the lists.
So now you can either choose to do nothing and let BISS die or help support us so that we can continue to support you. If you find any value in our free programs and services here then please consider donating.
The choice is now yours.
Our donation page is here : http://www.bluetack.co.uk/donate/index.php
===================
Update - FEB 17 2008 - On behalf of all the staff at BISS I just want to thank everyone who has donated for their continued support and generosity, we all appreciate it very much.
Your response to our request for help with the server hosting costs has been a great surprise and thanks to your contributions we will definitely be around for awhile longer.
Lets hope we can continue to work together to help protect each other from all that which lurks on the net for a long time to follow.. Thanks again.
